About the Artist

Sherri Congrove Artist Bio
Sherri Congrove was born in Medford, Oregon, verdant and rainy, but spent her formative years in Arizona, where the lovely desert hues and varied landscapes profoundly influenced her artistic perspective. Inspired early on by her mother, an artist herself, Sherri began painting at the age of five, fostering a passion that has lasted her entire life.
She excelled in Art classes throughout school, and realized her dream when she attended the Arizona School of Art in Phoenix under the guidance of European artist Joe Rogozen, driving to school daily in her beat up 1951 Ford, won in a card game by a friend. Intently, she deepened her understanding of color and form, drawing and painting. Even as she attended school, she sold paintings that would adorn luxurious homes in the Biltmore area of Phoenix.
Sherri’s art is deeply influenced by Native American culture. She draws a great deal of inspiration when attending Native American Pow Wows, which have shaped much of her Southwestern-themed work. Her creative output includes painting, sculpture, and abstract art, often combining different media to produce distinctive pieces. She has a particular love for clay because of its tactile nature.
Though self-taught in many of her methods, Sherri’s style is recognized for its originality and its rustic, intricate, abstract references to Native American traditions. Her work is frequently showcased in juried exhibitions, studio tours, and galleries, such as ArtQwest and more recently Anticus Gallery in Scottsdale.
Sherri Congrove’s art celebrates the vivid colors and rich textures of the American Southwest, embodying her profound connection to the land, its cultures, and her own artistic vision.
